Kings XI Punjab vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, 6th Match

Kings XI Punjab won by 97 runs

KXIP - 206/3 (20)
RCB - 109 (17)

CRR:  6.41

Player of the Match

So RCB fans must be fuming and pondering about their playing XI selection, but a quick reminder to everyone. Chris Morris is carrying a mild side strain, which is keeping him out. So once he is back, there will be changes in the team. So RCB have sort of been forced to find a slightly different combo because of that. But no doubt they should have done better than a 97-run loss. Just take the game close and lose by a lesser margin at least. A net run rate of -2.175 will take some undoing. They will hope they don't get into a NRR situation like previous seasons. KXIP are a big happy bunch after a "complete" performance. T20, bowl first, chase with dew making batting easy they say, but it's been five straight losses batting second now. Will MS Dhoni and Shreyas Iyer look to alter strategy at the coin tomorrow? We will be back at the same venue, on the same pitch for hopefully, a spicy contest! Take care!

KL Rahul | Player of the Match | KXIP captain: Not really (hitting it this well). I have actually been not so confident. I had a chat with Maxi yesterday, he said how are you feeling, I said that I am not feeling completely in control of my batting, he said you must be joking, you are hitting really well. Quite honestly I was nervous but I knew if I spend time in the middle, hit a few balls from the middle of bat, it will all settle down. I try to do (the same routines as I did when I was a player) but as a captain you have shortened time and you are running around and doing a lot of things. I still try to maintain the same routine. Once I am in the middle and during the toss is the only time I feel like a captain and otherwise I try to balance being a player and the captain. It's as complete a team performance as it can get. We had few different plans going into this game. We knew RCB have a power packed batting line up and we had to get 2-3 wickets up front and that also meant putting runs on the board, we know what these guys can do if they get set. The analyst, coaches and the management will be happy. Something that has impressed me in him (Bishoni's heart of coming back even after an expensive start). I watched the U-19 World Cup. He has a lot of fight in him. Every time I throw the ball he wants to do well, he was a little nervous bowling at guys like Finchy and AB, once he got through that he did well.

KL Rahul sweeps all the awards

Mohammed Shami | Purple cap holder: I have the responsibility to deliver with the new ball, help my bowling partners and try to hit the right areas. We also have a good batting line up and our bowling is more improved this year. It is a young unit with a good mix of experience and even skill wise we are good. Depends on how the wickets are over there (in Sharjah), if there is moisture we will try to bowl full and if it is dry we bowl back of a length. That will be the plan. We can only assess after reaching there and seeing the pitch.

Virat Kohli | RCB captain: Yeah it didn't (go well). I think we were good in the middle phase with the ball, they got off to a decent start and we pulled things back nicely. I have to stand in front and take the brunt of it, not the best day in the office, couple of important chances of KL when he was set and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180 we wouldn't have been under pressure from ball one of the chase. We know exactly where we went wrong and I have to put my hand up and say a couple of important chances went down. There are days when these kind of things happen on the cricket field, they happen and we have to accept them. We have had a good game, we have had a bad game and now it is time to move on. Learn from the mistakes we make. We did pretty well closing in on the second time out. Those are the moments, we pulled things back nicely so we understand how to do that as a team. He (Philippe) has batted at the top of the order for Western Australia and done well in the BBL as well, early days in the tournament so we thought we will maximise his ability and see how we go from thereon. We thought we will give ourselves a bit of depth in the middle overs.

RCB had to rethink their plans of rebuilding and then pushing at the target, but they wanted to attack and it cost them dearly. That's why chasing these big totals are really tricky. AB promised for a while, but KXIP had a brilliant plan - bowl wide of off and hope for a slice to deep cover and that's exactly what happened. Finch didn't look all that comfortable in both games and the inexperienced middle-order couldn't deliver the goods. KXIP will be really pleased with their bowling too. Shami and Cottrell look sharp, Bishnoi has grabbed eyeballs and Ashwin enters the fray with a 3-fer. A soothing balm after that heartbreak.

21:31 Local Time, 17:31 GMT, 23:01 IST: The KXIP fraternity, from the players to the owners, are really happy and why not. They bossed the game. Except the first game, that's now five straight wins for the team batting first this season. KL Rahul's calmness said it all. They were good for a 180 total, but that self confidence of knowing which bowler to target could be seen. He stole runs at the death to literally bat RCB out of the competition. But to be honest, RCB are batting strong unit they had an even chance of pulling this off with a bit of help from dew. But Cottrell, he fired and didn't miss the target. The promising Padikkal in the first over and the King in the next.

16.4 Murugan Ashwin to Chahal, 1 run, now a confident stride forward to flick across the line through mid-wicket

16.3 Murugan Ashwin to Chahal, wide, way outside off stump

Yuzvendra Chahal, right handed bat, comes to the crease

16.2 Murugan Ashwin to Navdeep Saini, out Bowled!! Shake of the head from Murugan Ashwin. Why did he bowl the leggie to the tailender and not target the sticks with a googly like this one, says Ashwin to himself. Saini lofts over the top, or he wanted to, misses and sneaks through the gate. Navdeep Saini b Murugan Ashwin 6(7) [4s-1]

Murugan Ashwin to Navdeep Saini, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!

16.1 Murugan Ashwin to Navdeep Saini, FOUR, that's a nice hit over wide long-off, with the spin, off the front foot, decently timed. Oh the lofted inside-out drive is a great feeling!

Murugan Ashwin [2.0-0-14-1] is back into the attack

It's 3/32 for Bishnoi, the U19 star.

RCB: 102-8 after 16 overs

15.6 Ravi Bishnoi to Steyn, no run, appeal for LBW, but it's outside off stump. Was the googly, Steyn couldn't get his bat down in time to defend
