Profile
Standing tall at six feet and four inches, with a string high arm action and the ability to extract awkward bounce off the turf, Trent Copeland was a promise in the Glenn McGrath mould of Aussie pacers, before he fell off the selectors’ radar. Having begun his career as a wicket keeping batsman for St. George club, he made a switch to quick bowling at the age of 19 making his story all the more intriguing.

He had a dream first class debut for NSW in the 2009-10 season, claiming 8 for 92 in his very first innings, the second best bowling figures by a debutant. He eventually finished with 35 victims in just five matches. His 45 wickets in the 2010-11 season, earning him a second spot on the list was enough for him to be drafted into the Test squad touring Sri Lanka in 2011.

He made his debut in the first Test at Galle and played a crucial role in Australia’s series win. But with the comeback of Mitchell Johnson and the rise of the young star, Mitchell Starc, Copeland faded away from the national scene. He remains an integral part of the NSW shield campaign though.
