RR need to win to stay alive for a playoff berth

RR need to win to stay alive for a playoff berth

RAJASTHAN ROYALS WIN And yet again, Rajasthan Royals have made a mockery of a 185+ run target in Abu Dhabi, this time chasing it down with 15 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. The chase, led by Ben Stokes's quickfire fifty, was well-supported by Sanju Samson, Steve Smith and Jos Buttler. Chris Gayle's 99 went in vain. With this win, Rajasthan Royals not only remain alive in the competition but have also jumped past KKR in the points table on Net Run Rate. Three teams now sit at 12 points each.

Bharath Ramaraj @Fancricket12 Buttler and six-hitting. Easy-peasy. 05:33 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Paschim Pathak - third umpire for this game - is attracting attention all the time

Moinak Das @d_moinak Is it just me or does Paschim Pathak's voice sound eerily similar to Sachin Tendulkar's ?! For a moment, I really thought that it was SRT speaking. ???? #KXIPvsRR #IPL2020 05:17 PM • Oct 10, 2020

WICKETThe required rate has come down to 7 and over but in a bid to take a quick single, Rajasthan Royals lose Sanju Samson to a run out. Kings XI Punjab desperately have to slow down the proceedings.145/3

Trendulkar @Trendulkar Waiting for Gautam Gambhir's tweet telling us to remember Sanju Samson's name. 05:11 PM • Oct 10, 2020

WICKET Just when it seemed like Robin Uthappa was cutting loose, he has slog swept Murugan Ashwin to the fielder at deep mid wicket. Second wicket goes down as KXIp look to claw their way back into the contest.

Even as Robin Uthappa has struggled to get going, Sanju Samson has been fluent with his strokeplay and helped Rajasthan Royals to 103 for 1 at the half-way mark of the innings.

WICKETChris Jordan has snapped the much needed wicket of Ben Stokes in the last over of the Powerplay. However, the southpaw's early assault - 26-ball 50 - has helped Rajasthan Royals get the early momentum.

FIFTY We're still in the Powerplay, Robin Uthappa is still batting on 9, but Ben Stokes has raced away to a quickfire fifty to help Rajasthan Royals to a strong start in the run-chase.

Ben Stokes and Robin Uthappa have helped Rajasthan Royals off to a good start in the chase, picking 21 runs off the first two overs.

After being put in to bat, Chris Gayle's 99 has powered KXIP to 185/4. The pitch played out well even though there were a few errors on the field. Will Rajasthan Royals regret the decision to field? In their last game at the venue, they ensured that even a 190+ total was chased down with ease. Will a similar story unfold tonight?

WICKETChris Gayle is bowled on 99! Jofra Archer yorks after what was a brilliant contest between the two. A bouncer, a six and a dismissal. Short but engaging. Gayle is furious and throws his bat after getting out but goes and congratulates the bowler. "In my mind, it's a century, alright?" says Gayle. Anyone to disagree?

WICKET Nicholas Pooran's brief blitz comes to an end as he pulls Ben Stokes straight to the fielder at deep extra cover. But a handy 9-ball 22 to show for his efforts.

WICKET KL Rahul's scratchy innings comes to an end on 46. Even as there were some delightful strokes, he struggled to get momentum in his innings. The second-wicket stand between Chris Gayle and KL Rahul is finally broken. 121/2.

FIFTYChris Gayle has ensured that despite a troubled start in the first over, the innings for KXIP has eased out since his arrival to the crease. He has had his share of luck en route but he has taken good advantage of that to bring up his 30th IPL fifty.

The Joker ???? @Joker122018 Chris Gayle at the age of 41 shows a lot of spark. 03:04 PM • Oct 10, 2020

POWERPLAY Much like it has been the case all along, despite Jofra Archer bowling two tidy overs, Rajasthan Royals have allowed KXIp to score 53 runs in the powerplay. Both Chris Gayle and KL Rahul have got going, and en route the carnage brought up their half-century stand in only 24 balls.

WICKET Rajasthan Royals have struck early. Jofra Archer gets the ball to rise and induces an edge to Ben Stokes. First-ball duck for the opener. Another brilliant start by Jofra Archer. 1 for 1 in 1 over.

Bharath Ramaraj @Fancricket12 Jofra Archer. He is on the money from Over 1. How do you play that kind of a delivery? That kicking bounce. 02:06 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Hello and welcome to Match 50 of the Indian Premier League 2020, between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. The last time the two sides had played, they had given a match for the ages, Rajasthan Royals chasing down a massive score courtesy Rahul Tewatia's late brilliance at Sharjah. Tonight, however, they will be tussling it out at a bigger ground in Abu Dhabi. There's all to play for for both the teams and every other team in the competition apart from Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. A win is needed for Rajasthan Royals to stay alive and given the form that Kings XI Punjab have hit in the second half of the tournament, it's unlikely to come easy. KXIP will remain in contention even if they don't win today but they wouldn't want to complicate their chances any further.
