Deepu Narayanan @deeputalks With RCB's defeats against CSK on Sunday and MI today, the only team that hasn't lost two games in a row in #IPL2020 is MI. The last two IPL seasons were won by a team that did not lose two successive matches - #CSK in 2018 and #MI in 2019. #MIvRCB 05:31 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Freddie Wilde @fwildecricket That's the innings of the season so far from Suryakumar Yadav. Classical timing and 360° range; strength v pace and strength v spin - all with the match in the balance. Impactful and elegant. Reminiscent of KL Rahul's 2018 campaign. #IPL2020 05:36 PM • Oct 10, 2020

What next for RCB?

They will rue their finish with the bat and probably realise the need to have either Kohli or AB in that phase. Will this defeat prompt them to bring Mooen back into that middle order? They have two games remaining in the league phase now. SRH and DC are their opponents and a victory in one of them will likely guarantee their spot in the playoff.

MI go top

After 48 games, we finally have a team reaching 16 points in the tournament. After Hardik's dismissal in the penultimate over, MI needed just 3 off the final 6 balls and SKY needed just one to finish this off. What a terrific knock from the Mumbai batsman. He finishes unbeaten on 79 and has sent a massive statement to the national selectors who have continued to ignore him for a long time.

16 from 12

SKY continues to hurt RCB tonight and the equation comes down to 16 off 12. Morris is handed the penultimate over with Siraj all set to bowl the final over. A couple of boundaries is all MI need.

Too good to be ignored?

Gaurav Kalra @gauravkalra75 Morris, Steyn, Siraj, Sundar and Chahal is an all international attack...and Suryakumar Yadav is going at an SR of 184 against them #MIvsRCB #IPL2020 05:20 PM • Oct 10, 2020

35 from 24

SKY's form and the presence of Hardik at the other end and Pollard in the dugout will give MI hope to close this out with ease. But you never know in T20 cricket when one or two wickets fall in succession. Can RCB make this contest interesting?

50 for SKY

He has been a delight tonight. But when he is in full flow, he is always a delight isn't he? He gets to another fifty this season and MI are marching towards a big win tonight. Siraj is under the pump.

Can RCB fight back?

Chahal has struck here. Krunal wants to take on the legspinner and manages only a top edge similar to Ishan and that wicket keeps RCB in the hunt. The dangerous Hardik Pandya strides to the crease and MI now need 58 from the final six overs. Morris has three overs left and Kohli will bank heavily on him for wickets here.

SKY on the charge

He has played some amazing shots tonight. And suddenly the momentum changes again. Suryakumar Yadav takes on Chahal for a six over extra cover and then follows it up with three boundaries off an over from Steyn. And now MI need 66 from the final seven overs. RCB need more wickets.

MI lose three

Saurabh Tiwary is the next to go as Siraj strikes again. Tiwary mistimes the shot on the up and Padikkal somehow manages to dive and take a stunning catch. That was top stuff. MI need a partnership now. Krunal has been promoted ahead of Pollard and Hardik.

Ishan falls

Chahal strikes in his very first over as he often does. Kohli brings on his main man and Ishan is already on his way back. He made 99 the last time these two sides met but departs for 25 tonight. He did look lively though as long as he was batting but RCB are now pulling things back. Shot making doesn't look easy at the moment and RCB will have to squeeze in a few tight overs now as Tiwary joins SKY out in the middle.

Siraj removes QDK

The MI openers made a decent start in the powerplay. Even though they didn't run away with it, the boundaries were coming at regular intervals. Kohli brings on Siraj in the sixth over to round off the powerplay and QDK in his attempt to make the most out of these final six balls of the fielding restrictions perishes. He hoicks one down deep midwicket but RCB have a fielder stationed there. That was a big wicket.

shashant surendran @shashantsuren @Narbavi We always tend to go gaga over Jasprit Bumrah and his world-class bowling. We often turn a blind-eye on Krunal Pandya who bowled out his 4 overs at an economy of just over 6 when the others were leaking runs. He always slips in economical spells in the middle overs. 03:54 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Target 165

Excellent comeback from MI to keep RCB to 164/6. RCB managed to score just 35 runs in the final five overs. They lost way too many wickets at the death with Bumrah doing the trick in the 17th over. AB's wicket was extremely crucial as well. RCB would have ideally target another 25 runs at least when they were 129/2 after 15 overs but MI will now fancy their chances of getting the job done.

3 in 5

That's the third wicket in five deliveries now for MI as the dangerous Morris is now back in the pavilion. After smashing Boult for a boundary, Morris attempts an upper cut over the short third man but only manages a top edge that leads to his dismissal. MI are all over RCB here. They have clawed back into this game.

Double strike

Bumrah has done it again. He bowls a maiden in the 17th over and picks up two key wickets as well. Shivam Dube first miscues a bouncer and Padikkal then follows suit by hitting one straight to the fielder. That over has certainly tilted the game firmly in favour of MI. RCB need big overs.

Pollard strikes

A full toss leads to AB's dismissal unfortunately for RCB. He was setting himself up for another big impact tonight but Pollard brings himself on and does the business. AB crouches a bit and hits the full toss straight to the fielder at square leg. The umpires did call for a replay to check how high the full toss was but to MI's relief, it is definitely a legal delivery. With both AB and Kohli gone, MI can sense a huge opportunity now to keep RCB to 170.

190 in sights?

And now Padikkal takes on the bowling as well at the other end. These are dangerous signs for MI. At one end you have the marauding AB loosening up and at the other end you have an opener who is now batting like he has nothing to lose. He has hit Chahar for a six and two fours in the same over and RCB are now 129/2 after 15 overs. What can they come up with in the final 5 overs now?

AB tees off

AB brings out the ramp to fetch his first six of the night and follows it with another boundary. He has made a good start to his innings already and with the innings entering the latter stages, AB is certainly going to be very crucial now. He has hit half-centuries in his last three outings against MI so he knows how to tackle the best of their bowlers.

Massive wicket

MI get rid of Virat Kohli cheaply. Kohli never looked at ease tonight struggling to get going and MI bring back Bumrah at the right time to get rid of the RCB skipper. Bumrah's bouncer is not properly connected by Kohli and the top edge is pouched by Tiwary. This is a huge wicket. AB de Villiers is the new batsman now.

Michael Vaughan @MichaelVaughan Devdutt Padikkal looks the type of player we will see representing @BCCI for many many years ... Incredible young all round player ... #IPLinUAE 03:07 PM • Oct 10, 2020

50 for Devdutt

This has been a top knock from the left-hander. He already scored a fifty against the same opposition in the previous game and has delivered again tonight. He punches Krunal through the covers to fetch a boundary that brings up the fifty off just 30 deliveries.

MI strike

They needed a wicket badly and Chahar's introduction works for them. Philippe just played a beautiful shot inside out over extra cover to fetch a boundary but fails to connect the next ball while attempting a heave. And QDK was extremely quick behind the stumps as he whipped the bails off. The appeal wasn't very strong as everyone anticipated Philippe's foot to be grounded but replays confirm that it was indeed in the air just in time for the keeper to get his work done. But he departs for a well-made 33. Coming in place of Finch, the young batter has certainly done a pretty good job.

Intriguing passage of play on cards

RCB have the lowest run rate amongst all teams in the middle overs this season. Will that change tonight? They certainly have the platform to try and force the pace. Both Padikkal and Philippe are well set and with Kohli and AB to follow, these two can get adventurous. And against this dangerous MI batting unit, you need as much as you can.

Openers make PP count

Devdutt Padikkal has been extremely good in his debut season and MI are already under the pump. He has made the fielding restrictions count by racing to 29 in quick time and Josh Philippe has looked in decent touch at the other end as well. They have added more than 50 already in the powerplay and it will be interesting to see if Rahul Chahar can halt their progress.

Hemendra Dwivedi @HemendraDwived2 @Narbavi this is the right call from rcb to play Josh Phillipe in place of Aaron Finch(who is having rough patch this season) and he also reduce the burden of wicket-keeping for abd. 01:58 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Navyesh @Navyesh2 It's a interesting call to leave out moeen ali when opposition has 3 left handers in top 4 @Narbavi #MIvsRCB 01:51 PM • Oct 10, 2020

Toss - MI opt to bowl

Kieron Pollard wants to chase. And MI are unchanged from the previous game. RCB on the other hand have made multiple changes to their XI. They have had enough of Finch's barren run and Josh Philippe is brought back. This could be a smart move. Philippe is at his best as an opener and he will also relieve AB from his keeping duties. Dale Steyn is back as well in place of Moeen Ali and Navdeep Saini makes way for Shivam Dube.

Build up

Hello and welcome to the live blog for tonight's titanic clash featuring Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. I call it titanic because these two sides have been great this season and are currently occupying the top two slots. So the possibility of them taking on each other one more time or even twice is quite high over the next few days. For MI, topping the points table is not a big deal. They have been in this scenario multiple times and their consistency has resulted in them winning four titles. But for RCB, it's quite a turnaround especially after three successive disappointing campaigns. They have been consistent this year and would love to become the first team to get to 16 points this season - a tally that usually guarantees a playoff spot. Technically though, five teams can still finish with 16 points this season so a win tonight will not certainly guarantee either of these sides a place in the final four. Courtesy of their NRR, MI's chances of confirming their spot in the playoffs will be extremely high though if they manage to win tonight.

Historically, these two sides have been involved in some memorable games over the years but not many can top the contest they had exactly a month ago. To replicate that is going to be almost improbable. Three men registered fifties for RCB that night to help them post 201. MI needed 90 runs from the final five overs in the run chase after making a poor start. In an ideal world, victory should have been just a mere formality at that stage for the bowling side. But with MI, you never know what's coming your way. They never say die and that spirit was fully visible that night as Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard stunned Kohli and company with an assault that saw the game end in a tie. RCB eventually came out on top in the ensuing super over but they definitely learnt a valuable lesson that night.

RCB brought in Moeen Ali in their last game and even though he didn't make an impact, they would ideally want to give him more game time to see what he can come up with ahead of the playoffs. Moeen's presence in the middle order can also give the likes of Kohli and de Villiers more liberty and hand the side another handy spin option. They have been persistent with Aaron Finch even though he hasn't been amongst the runs this season. That is unlikely to change tonight. For MI, Ishan did a great job as an opener in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and at least one member from that middle order has managed to constantly step up. Let's hope these two sets of players can put on a show once again especially after last night's one-sided encounter.
