Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test
Sri Lanka won by 209 runs
There was some good Test cricket played over the last 2 weeks between these 2 teams. It was a batting paradise in the first Test as 3 batsmen (Shanto, Mominul, de Silva) scored centuries and skipper Karunaratne notched up a double ton. However, the second Test was much more interesting as there was equal competition between the bat and ball. Sri Lanka made the most of home conditions as young Praveen Jayawickrama stole the show with his magnificent bowling figures. That's all we've got. Hope you guys enjoyed our coverage. This is Nikhil Jadhav signing off on behalf of Akshay Maanay and Harish. Join us back for the coverage of IPL later tonight. Ciao!
Dimuth Karunaratne, Player of the Series: As a captain I had to lead. I was short on runs before West Indies. The batters did a good job in both the Tests. I had to be positive in the initial phase in West Indies and here as well. That's what my coach told me to do. It wasn't easy in the first Test as their batsmen played well, but we had faith in ourselves (in the second Test). I thought the youngsters did well. We posted a big score and the 2 spinners bowled well. Praveen was fantastic and so was Ramesh. But I think they need to improve and build their confidence. They need to fill in the shoes of Dilruwan (Perera) and Rangana (Herath).
Mominul Haque, Bangladesh captain: I think the toss result was the most important thing in my view. There was nothing much for the bowlers on the first 2 days. The conditions are bit similar (to Bangladesh), just that there's a lot of humidity. I am happy with the first Test, how everyone played. Here we struggled in the first innings, and that's where we lost the game.
Praveen Jayawickrama, Player of the Match: Feel exteremely happy to play for Sri Lanka, my whole family is pleased. That was always my dream. The team helped me and I was able to overcome all that pressure.
For Sri Lanka, debutant - Praveen Jayawickrama was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 11 wickets in the match and became the first Sri Lankan bowler to claim a 10-wicket haul on debut. Not to forget the 2 centuries by Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne - which actually laid the foundation and proved to be pivotal in shaping up the outcome of this Test. Bangladesh had few positives too, with Tamim Iqbal being the most consistent performer for the visitors in this series. Unfortunately, he couldn't get a century with him getting out in the 90s a couple of times. Taijul's five-wicket haul yesterday was another silver lining for Bangladesh. All in all, it was a pretty competitive Test series. The win margin does look like a big one, but Bangladesh will be proud of themselves for putting up a fight. Hang on for the presentations.
11:09 Local Time, 05:39 GMT, 11:09 IST: That's a comfortable victory for Sri Lanka as they thump Bangladesh by 209 runs and win the series 1-0. It was a commendable effort by Bangladesh in the first Test, and their batting wasn't bad in this Test either. However, after playing xi on a flat wicket in the previous Test, their batsmen couldn't really adjust to the conditions, especially on day 3. Pretty sure they have played in such conditions where the pitch has assisted spinners, it was just that their batsmen didn't turn up after Sri Lanka had posted a massive first innings total. A lead of 242 runs was always going to haunt them as the Islanders managed to set a massive target of 437. Never easy to chase such a tough target especially on the final 2 days in the sub-continent and that too against the home side.
BAN: 227-10 after 71 overs
70.6 Jayawickrama to Abu Jayed, out Lbw!! Game, set, match! Jayawickrama claims his 11th wicket of the match. Top notch effort on his Test debut. This straighter delivery was directed at the middle stump and it kept a lad low. Abu Jayed gets beaten on his defence and is rapped on the back pad. Crashing into the middle stick, confirm the replays. Handshakes all around as everyone applaud and acknowledge Jayawickrama's effort. Abu Jayed lbw b Jayawickrama 0(3)
Jayawickrama to Abu Jayed, THATS OUT!! Lbw!!
Abu Jayed has been adjudged lbw! And the batsman has decided to challenge the decision. Nothing on UltraEdge, it's a flat line. And that in my opinion, is OUT! 3 reds and that the end of the story..
70.5 Jayawickrama to Abu Jayed, no run, lot slower through the air and Abu Jayed has blocked it into the off side
70.4 Jayawickrama to Abu Jayed, no run, spinning away from the batsman outside off, Abu Jayed plays inside the line
Abu Jayed, right handed bat, comes to the crease
70.3 Jayawickrama to Mehidy Hasan, out Caught by Pathum Nissanka!! 10 wickets for Jayawickrama! What a debut. And he needs to thank Nissanka for this wicket, that's a fantastic catch. Mehidy Hasan was down on his knee to play the paddle which he did. However, Nissanka who was stationed at short leg anticipates the batsman playing xi this shot. He is swift to move across comes his right and grabs it eventually. Quality anticipation! Mehidy Hasan c Pathum Nissanka b Jayawickrama 39(86) [4s-4]

69.4 Ramesh Mendis to Taskin Ahmed, out Caught by Karunaratne!! Taskin Ahmed runs out of patience and has thrown his wicket away. A short ball by Ramesh Mendis and Taskin Ahmed looks to hack it across the line. Goes for a heave and gets a top-edge that has been swallowed by Karunaratne near extra cover. Mendis bags his fourth wicket, can he get a five-wicket haul? Taskin Ahmed c Karunaratne b Ramesh Mendis 7(33)
