Commentary

21:15 local: The players are shaking hands and the game has been abandoned. Unfortunately, the conditions haven't improved and we ran out of time for resumption. It's a shame that we lost a lot of time due to smog but think about those who work tirelessly to keep the ground game-ready. Surely, no-one should be exposed to such a harmful environment and believe the umpires made the right decision to call off this game. That is all we have from this smog-marred encounter. There is another BBL game - Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Renegades - in progress and it's looking much bright out there. Switch tabs and do join in. Until next time, cheers and goodbye!

ICYMI: Sydney Thunder are well ahead on the DLS target, but that would come into effect only at the end of fifth over.

20:34 local: No improvement in the overhead conditions. We are hearing that the smog quality is six times worse than the usual limit and the umpires are having a conflab with the groundsmen in the middle. The seats are getting empty slowly and steadily and that's never a good sign I'm afraid.

20:14 local: The umpires have had enough and they cite the 'visibility factor' as a major concern to take the players off the ground. The game is not over yet and this is what the onfield umpires Sam Nogajski and Paul Wilson had to say: 'Visibility and air quality a problem, we can smell the smog and it doesn't mean the game is done. Every four minutes from now, we will lose one over. We are aware of the fact that we are four balls away from forcing a result in this game and until we get to that stage where we get that four balls, we shall see and if we're lucky enough to get a restart that'd be really great'

4.3 Rashid Khan to Ferguson, 2 wides, short and spinning down the leg-side, Ferguson fails to make contact on the flick and it dribbles away past Carey to his left

4.2 Rashid Khan to Ferguson, FOUR, short and well outside off, Ferguson walks across and hammers the pull wide of the fielder at square leg

4.1 Rashid Khan to Ferguson, no run, googly first up from Rashid Khan and Ferguson didn't pick it. Goes too deep inside the crease and misses the flick, hit high on the thigh pad

Rashid Khan, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack

A thick blanket of smog has engulfed the stadium and the umpires, at some stage, will have a look for sure...
